"The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost." ~ G. K. Chesterton
---------------
i would rather have given all i could muster for love
taken chances, stayed up and out all night
made big blunders,
written apologies - felt ashamed of myself
than to have reserved my actions
i would rather toss my cares for all else aside
roll the dice with you, my dear
and had them come up snake eyes
even after throwing every ounce we had into it
than to have wondered later what if
i would rather be in the 12 steps of recovery from love
than watched from the sidelines
waited in pain or fear, risked nada
never attempting to run the race
than to have just let it go
i would rather have thrown all i could into love
and have it cave in on me
and be thrashing and screaming out
beneath the difficulty and pain of loss
than to have held back

Your writing is beautiful. However, go read my post from today, and you will understand why I just can't agree with you on this one!
that's true, even though it hurts to lose.
This was lovely. This Tennyson quote has always been a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing Larry.

I can relate to this more than i can say. Very nice.
Once again, nice flow and rhythm. I agree with the thoughts as well, although one doesn't always remember that when things go wrong. But living a life of holding back and not taking risks doesn't really keep you from getting hurt. Nicely done.
oh yes! to that. live, i ask you, live to the fullest, without regrets!
Thats so true, but I want a new love in my life now I am fed up of being single, just never seems to happen
I love your writing, LarryG. And the sentiment in this post is one that I wish I could embody... but my suspicion and cynicism and *fear* always seem to get in the way...
I think this should replace Tennyson's long loved sentiment. It says so much more! And so, so very true! What is life if we aren't willing to risk? Think of all we would miss?
