River Bed

a river bed though once a rivulet

or perhaps the largest glacial gape

gawks in awe of thaw

water scrambles over gravel, mud, sand

scratching it’s itchy places

a river bed though once a ditch

or perhaps a meteoric skidmark

receives due reward

slow widenings, gently to receive

the infusion release of mountain, plain, hill and dale

a river bed though once a single drop

or perhaps shiftless mantle shuffled ‘neath

hidden shimmer below grassy earth

flows winding oxbows till swinging

touching bank to bank the bed straightens

a river bed surrounds, shapes, sings

or perhaps reflects inspires life changes

dynamic, instantaneous, subtle, life long

stretches body, mind, soul

rising each day the river flows
