faith hope love

work produced by faith
labor prompted by love
endurance inspired by hope

how do these three (faith hope and love) give expression?
that what we do (work, labor, endure)
could burst forth (be produced, prompted, inspired)
by three fundamentals....

I reflect, what things am I doing out of faith? No need to go immediately to the religious
connotation.
It is faith, (what we believe inside), that motivates us to keep on.
What do I have faith in? I believe in family, I devote much time to family and kids.
What do I labor for? Most of what I earn ($$) goes to support the family.
And why do I keep on? Love of the family is a huge motivator.

first attempt at a word matrix

This is a word matrix - a concept I have been pondering.
The word matrix can be read in any order.

Try reading across either way - up or down - or diagnol

mesh

mind

matter

mingle

more

mild

moral

mere

milky

molten

mutant

mood

maiden

melting

miniature

meander

Examples -
The mesh in mind creates matter to mingle.
A maiden went molten manic expressing a mini(ature) mood.
The mood was moral, the mind saw more.

***This is probably a bit of a stretch.
It may be of little use, except perhaps as a creative tool.
Just playing with some words. :)

Humanity, humanity, humanity

My humanity, its fragility,
you know I wanna be, a person living free
My humanity, its porosity,
dripping off of me, all wet so watery

My humanity, a possibility,
I know it's gonna be, tons of activity
My humanity, and luminosity
shining outta me, lit up for all to see

Humanity, humanity, humanity...

step into the small wood

As I walked into the small wood there was light rain
The patter of raindrops on leaves let me know
I was being sheltered, embraced by nature

protected from the elements, the foliage above an umbrella

Even though the wood is small, with the steady
droplets
tapping on the green roof above my head

the hum of the near thruway with autos faded out of earshot
as the rain and occasional
chiree chireee of the cardinal soaked my senses

twist and step into the small wood
the light rain will come, it knows the way
drop on leaf, bird on limb, frog on trunk
entwine with nature from which you came

feel the generosity of the cloud,
the sheltering of limb and leaf
the damp warm moss on floor
with needle, leaf, root and stone

What have you read lately?

I am reading "Don Quixote" by Cervantes. I had thought I would do it for a long long time.

I have also started "The Gravedigger's Daughter" by Oates

I have recently read:

"The Maltese Falcon", Sam Spade and the gang. I want to see the movie now.

"The Little Prince" a short tome on greater love masquerading as a child's book.

And "The Falls" by Oates (I like Joyce Carol Oates)

a few angels

The two wooden angels are approximately 9 foot tall. They were carved using the remains of two large cedar trees after a tornado had come through the area of the cemetery.

This little angel is in a fern garden. The garden is about a half acre and has approx 20 birdhouses in it also.

Prayer’s Preamble

Pour out upon us – when we need it the least
Pour out upon us – when we need it the most
Pour out upon us – when we are strong
Pour out upon us – in our weakness
Pour out upon us – in our pride
Pour out upon us – in our humility

Pour out upon us – in our knowledge
Pour out upon us – in our ignorance
Pour out upon us – when we sense the need
Pour out upon us – in our moments of unawareness
Refresh, renew, revive, rearrange
every molecule, cell and atom
of this creation you have created

TAILS - Tell about your job (Or one you've had)

One of the most interesting jobs I ever had / did.
I was still in high school and a friend asked me.
"Do you want to go catch chickens with us?"

Yes, the big 18 wheelers you've seen hauling chickens to the processing plant are stacked with crates filled by catching the chickens by hand.

No. 1 the crew gets there after dark. The birds are calm. If they get upset they will get in big heap and ones on the bottom will smother.

To keep the birds in the dark, the white bulbs are replaced by red bulbs. That is because the birds are color blind. With red bulbs in the sockets they see very little.

As a catcher, the job is to reach into a group of the birds and grab three or four by the legs. Then carry them out of the chicken house, a long low roofed barn holding hundreds (a few thousand) birds. Then put the birds in the crates out by the truck.

If you are at the truck, the job is to close the crates after the right number of birds are in it and stack it on the truck.

We caught all the birds in a laying house, large hens and roosters, the hens had been laying eggs for some time. I heard they were sent to the "soup line" :)

It was exciting, but dusty, the birds would squawk and cluck as they were carried upside down to the crates. Sometimes they would flap their wings a bit.

It was good work, especially for a teenager looking to put a bit of gas money for the weekend in his pocket.

There was an older fellow with a colorful nickname that led our crew, "Coon" Cummings was his name, a fine man to work for, God rest his soul.

A Poem for Don Quixote

"Therefore, straiten Rozinante's girth, recommend thyself to God, and wait for me in this place, three days at farthest, within which time, if I come not back, thou may'st return to our village, and, as the last favour and service done to me, go from thence to Toboso, and inform my incomparable mistress, Dulcinea, that her captive knight died in attempting things that might render him worthy to be called her lover."

From Don Quixote - Volume I, Book III chapter VI - paragraph 2

Our good hero is speaking succinctly to his squire Sancho to prepare him for his next adventure. The knight-errant is marked strongly by his disregard for self and the total throwing of his will and heart into the adventure at hand. All of these are to recommend his love to Dulcinea of Toboso. Who like most of the fair sex abhorred only the one who loved her most, our hero, and loved almost exclusively those which abhorred her, as Don Quixote points out later in the chapter.

A Poem for Don Quixote

Fix the saddle and girth of my stallion,
call upon your Maker in heaven,
steel your heart to wait for me here
three days at length I should require,

And if return I not in three,
then crossed over to reward I must be
Go as a final favor to this errant knight
to that Dulcinea of Toboso most fair delight

relay to her the knight most errant died
in great attempts to win her loving pride
his thoughts only to become noble in her sight
and win the prize, her hand in love his plight

BetterAnswerToNo. 3

This is a better answer to no. 3 just below...

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6

We could probably hold a competition and have a lot of ties :)

Week Number 119

Available at http://curiousasacat.blogspot.com/

1) What one thing makes your husband/wife/lover/best friend feel the guiltiest? I think it was the cancer. We tried every way possible to treat it. And it was distressing that there was not so much could be done to stop it.

2) What makes you laugh? A surprise joke, the cornier the better. "A duck walked into the pharmacy. The duck said "I'd like some chapstick please". The pharmacist asked "How are you going to pay for it?" The duck quipped "I was gonna put it on my bill"" :)

3) Who is the least spiritual person you know? The one who thinks they need it the least.

4) What is the biggest surprise you've ever had? The band bought a tuba when I was a junior in high school. It was a total surprise. I went on and played it to make all-state.

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

My sister and the kids have a dog named 'Socks'. A very loyal family pet. They were just mentioning how socks loves their two boys. Ages 11 and 18. She is black but trimmed in a bit of white, especially on her paws. Hence the moniker 'SOCKS'

worried flowers

Lovely wild flowers - disregarding the elements
we enjoy them - sustained by the life force within
take a cue to these - lilies in their own right
dressed to suit a king - even Solomon perhaps
they take no thought - only burst to display their blossoms
worried flowers don't exist - graciously displaying gifts of delight

Cocktail Party Physics

http://twistedphysics.typepad.com/cocktail_party_physics/

this is an interesting blog I ran across

well interesting to someone who has a degree in math-physics :)

my challenge to me

it's distinctive and calls to my heartsong
as walking and living each day long
that bringing a challenge to my mind
happens on purpose in real time

i don't attempt super endeavors
no essays, short stories or letters
just keeping free rhyme linking
and doing poetic thinking

so let it be straight forwardly given
that each day I find myself living
the challenge that happens to me
"think things through - poetically"

A Man And A Woman Sit Near Each Other

A Man And A Woman Sit Near Each Other
by Robert Bly

A man and a woman sit near each other.
They do not long to be older, or younger, nor to be born
in any other country, nor any other time.
They are content to be where they are, talking or not
talking.
Their breaths together feed someone whom we do not
know.
The man sees the way his thumbs move and his other
fingers;
he sees her fingers curl around a book that she hands to
him.
They are obedient to a third body
they share in common. They have made a promise to love
that body.
Austerity may come, parting may come, or death.
A man and a woman sit near each other,
and their breaths together feed someone whom we do not
know,
whom we know of, but have never seen.

REAL MAGIC (or pracitcal advise for problem solvers)

Find out more from about and from Lisa Vaden at her web page.

This article was released through Sir Froggie's Positive News Network

REAL MAGIC by Lisa Vaden

Ok. I needed to coach myself through something.

And sometimes it helps others too. So here we go...

Let go.

Let go of your expectations about the future. Let go of your hurts from the past.

Be here now.

In this moment, fully open yourself up to and be with what is right in front of you.

Honor yourself.

Say, do and act on what is true for you with integrity and care.

Honor others.

Seek to harm no one. Remind others that all are capable of owning their power.

Love.

In everything, seek to be a vessel of love.

Trust the process.

Anything and everything can and will be used for the benefit of all involved.

Grow.

Be willing to be uncomfortable. Seek to understand. Be curious.

Allow.

Allow it to take as long as it takes. Allow it to be messy. Allow it to be what it is.

Relax.

Everything is ok.

Enjoy.

Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Repeat.

New day, new hour. Be willing to do it all over again. Start with Let go and work through the list again.

Until next time...

meditation

Is there a place for meditation near you?

This is a picture of a prayer trail I enjoy.
I stopped on the way to work today to enjoy the morning sun in the trees.
I ask God to be with me today (among other things).
From forgiveness to gratitude, grace and receptiveness, this prayer trail is a place for renewed perspective.

Is there a place for meditation near you?

PS: I saw a pileated (redheaded) woodpecker fly up into the trees on arrival.

See sunsets and morning prayer trail jpegs here.

Peace *OR* Piece

from http://headsortailshome.blogspot.com/

For most the tiniest piece
of peace will surely do
I'll take a piece of peace
and share that with you too

Peace upon the precipice
of less than peace is good
A piece that makes that happen
may sometimes be misunderstood

If this piece is a bit singsong
and brings no mind new
peace
then find a piece that fits your style
suffice that piece for peace

loss and renewal

reading correctly the challenges
to walk the road ahead
lose the life behind
find new life instead

challenge beyond comprehensions
from unfathomable power
exposing lame best intentions
fearful of these souls cower

begin new and abundant
fresh from the resurrection spring
give in to the loss and renewal
life complex and transforming

("
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." Matthew 16:25)

My Romance

My romance doesnt have to have a moon in the sky
My romance doesnt need a blue lagoon standing by
No month of may, no twinkling stars
No hide away, no softly played guitars

My romance doesnt need a castle rising in spain
Nor a dance to a constantly surprising refrain
Wide awake I can make my most fantastic dreams come true

My romance doesnt need a thing but you
My romance doesnt need a thing but you

These lyrics came from Here

PS: oh yeah... you know who you are...

encircling embrace

encircling embrace engages emptiness
calls clamor curtly concealed
visions view verily vacated
smitten smiles smartly survived
feelings friendly fried frenchy

hearts headed homeward hastily
texts typed totally tacit
contact colluded cahoots contradicted
reply reduced readily rejected
emotions evoke exceptional evacuation

2) What do you most like or appreciate about the opposite sex? Nurture

3) With which person from history would you choose to change places? An average person in the USA to be (colonial times), during the lead in to the American revolution (for a day)

to communicate - one extreme situation :)

i acted just like an adult last night...
and why not...
my 15 yo had gone with friends to get a burger...
that was what she asked to do,
but 2 hours later i found she had not gone there but to a different place
no biggie, just a change in venue, yet...
she should have called (at least the adult in me said she should have called)
my 18 yo daughter sent her a txt msg and found out she was at the other place.
She said... i'm sure she is there, kids are posting from their phones on facebook - lol
so finally 45 minutes later at 11:15 i called her...
told her she was blundering by not being in touch
i was upset when she finally got home at 1140pm on a school night.
she didn't call when they changed locations, and didn't call when things ran late.
this is a full 3 hours after her concert is over!
so anyhow... i was an adult to her - actually i carried on like i was the spoiled one...
i yelled, and screamed, threw pillows, laid out guilt trips, accused and berated and threatened
it was all quite ridiculous, to make the point...
"COMMUNICATE"

so tell me... how do you get your teen to communicate? :)

(I just really liked the photo of the abandoned house with the yellow flowers... awesome!)

Pegasus Wings

finding the way, the place
where comfort and strength coexist
touching heart and spirit
driven beyond inner myth

look for a dream over boredom
shine out of everyday trudge
attitudes like shackles binding
let go, get out of the drudge

float as a hummingbird singing
flit as a butterfly - glide
bask on the waters
à la duckling
on wings of Pegasus ride

Unquiet

The Unquiet Grave

The Wind doth blow today,
my love,And a few small drops of rain;
I never had but one true-love,
In cold grave she was lain.

I'll do as much for my true-love,
As any young man may;
I'll sit and mourn all at her grave
For a twelvemonth and a day.

The twelvemonth and a day being up,
The dead began to speak:
'Oh who sits weeping on my grave,
And will not let me sleep?

'Tis I, my love, sits on your grave,
And will not let you sleep;
For I crave one kiss of your clay-cold lips,
And that is all I seek.

You crave one kiss of my clay-cold lips;
But my breath smells earthly strong;
If you have one kiss of my clay-cold lips,
Your time will not be long.

"Tis down in younder garden green,
Love, where we used to walk,
The finest flower that ere was seen
Is withered to a stalk.

The stalk is withered dry, my love,
So will our hearts decay;
So make yourself content, my love,
Till God calls you away.

*Things Not To Say or Do at a Job Interview*

** See photo of interviewer's family on desk, point, start laughing uncontrollably.

** Ask if there is only one emergency exit, grin and say; 'Boy!, I bet this floor would be in trouble if someone barricaded that.'

** Inquire on office policy of friends staying over.

** Claim you wouldn't even need a 'sit-in' job if Al Einstein hadn't stolen your secret patent for '2000 Flushes'

** Over-emphasize your ability to use a copier.

** Ask if it's O.K. that you sit on the floor.

** Allow that you would little impact on the overhead budget, because you swiped all the supplies from your other job.

** Although parking was free, insist that they validate something or you're not leaving.

** Mention your resume would have been stronger, but you didn't feel like making anything else up.

** Walk into interviewer's office with a tape measure, measure office from a few angles, put away, declare; 'NOW we can begin.'

** Upon walking into the office for first time ask receptionist to hold all your calls.

Our Hearts are Sore

Our Hearts are Sore
by o'hOgain

our hearts are sore

individuals expecting more

looking for the greener

only seems meaner

letting things go

risks all makes a show

unwilling to give
fearful to live

-------------------
I wrote the above as a response to a friends post "
reactions" (thanks shadow)
and then promptly read Matthew 18:15-18
which is the ultimate "how to forgive"...

it begins with "
"If your brother sins against you..."

and goes on to describe how you should go to them...

I think one of the best things we can do is get the following phrases in our vocabulary and use them often.
"I made a mistake"
"I'm sorry"
"Please forgive me"

This type of talk (spoken from the heart) keeps our relationships working properly.
They are like routine maintenance on a vehicle.
Of course we should never forget our manners,
yet too often, we blame, and sit back and wait for an apology.

What happened to going to the other person and talking it out?

When is the last time you went after forgiveness with the passion it calls for?

catch yourself in the act

I wanted so to spread the flowers at the grave yesterday.
We had 4 dozen roses. The idea is to pull the flowers off the stems and spread the petals on the grave.
Unfortunately, I had put the pinkish ones in the bottom drawer of the fridge, the white ones had been on a higher shelf.
But the pink ones had been in the "meat drawer" and managed to freeze somewhat.
So they were not easily stripped off the stems and strewn over the grave.

Maybe it is not such a terrific example, but I was an adult about it.
We should have just placed them on the grave as is, but I was "serious" and wanted to wait until they thawed a bit to spread them on the grave.

Sooooo... when was the last time you "acted just like a grownup" !!!???

Come on now, be honest ... :)

1) What is the worst experience you have ever had in a car? when i was about 7 i got car sick reading a book on the way to my grammaws (about a 45 minute drive), i must have been white as a sheet - they gave me some coca-cola to get me over it
- thank God no serious accidentes

2) Who is your personal hero, and why? i have always been a huge fan of Frank Zappa due to his musical genius

3) Name the one thing you have done that has caused you the most guilt during your lifetime. i didn't realize it was going to be a problem when it happened, there was an old barn where we rode our bikes, my buddy and i found some sort of nude magazine, there were men and women wearing nothing but party hats in the pictures, it wasn't extreme porn, but it shook me up a bit at 10 and spurred a desire for more, or maybe it was just a starting point of what could have happened anyhow. am i an addict, i don't think so, but it's been roughly 40 years and that moment still bothers me a bit
- close second, i took some coins from my dad when i was 12, they meant something to him, but not to me, shouldn't a done that one...

Thanatopsis

William Cullen Bryant. 1794–1878

TO HIM who in the love of Nature holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks
A various language; for his gayer hours
She has a voice of gladness, and a smile
And eloquence of beauty, and she glides 5
Into his darker musings, with a mild
And healing sympathy, that steals away
Their sharpness, ere he is aware. When thoughts
Of the last bitter hour come like a blight
Over thy spirit, and sad images 10
Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall,
And breathless darkness, and the narrow house,
Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart;—
Go forth under the open sky, and list
To Nature's teachings, while from all around— 15
Earth and her waters, and the depths of air—
Comes a still voice—Yet a few days, and thee
The all-beholding sun shall see no more
In all his course; nor yet in the cold ground,
Where thy pale form was laid, with many tears, 20
Nor in the embrace of ocean, shall exist
Thy image. Earth, that nourished thee, shall claim
Thy growth, to be resolved to earth again,
And, lost each human trace, surrendering up
Thine individual being, shalt thou go 25
To mix forever with the elements;
To be a brother to the insensible rock,
And to the sluggish clod, which the rude swain
Turns with his share, and treads upon. The oak
Shall send his roots abroad, and pierce thy mould. 30
Yet not to thine eternal resting-place
Shalt thou retire alone, nor couldst thou wish
Couch more magnificent. Thou shalt lie down
With patriarchs of the infant world,—with kings,
The powerful of the earth,—the wise, the good, 35
Fair forms, and hoary seers of ages past,
All in one mighty sepulchre. The hills
Rock-ribbed and ancient as the sun; the vales
Stretching in pensive quietness between;
The venerable woods—rivers that move 40
In majesty, and the complaining brooks
That make the meadows green; and, poured round all,
Old Ocean's gray and melancholy waste,—
Are but the solemn decorations all
Of the great tomb of man! The golden sun, 45
The planets, all the infinite host of heaven,
Are shining on the sad abodes of death,
Through the still lapse of ages. All that tread
The globe are but a handful to the tribes
That slumber in its bosom.—Take the wings 50
Of morning, pierce the Barcan wilderness,
Or lose thyself in the continuous woods
Where rolls the Oregon, and hears no sound,
Save his own dashings,—yet the dead are there:
And millions in those solitudes, since first 55
The flight of years began, have laid them down
In their last sleep—the dead reign there alone.
So shalt thou rest; and what if thou withdraw
In silence from the living, and no friend
Take note of thy departure? All that breathe 60
Will share thy destiny. The gay will laugh
When thou art gone, the solemn brood of care
Plod on, and each one as before will chase
His favorite phantom; yet all these shall leave
Their mirth and their employments, and shall come 65
And make their bed with thee. As the long train
Of ages glide away, the sons of men,
The youth in life's green spring, and he who goes
In the full strength of years, matron and maid,
The speechless babe, and the gray-headed man— 70
Shall one by one be gathered to thy side
By those, who in their turn shall follow them.

So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm, where each shall take 75
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch 80
About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.

the ultimate question for stargazing

"Has the sheep eaten the flower or not?" (From "the Little Prince" by Saint-Exupery)

This is posed as the ultimate question for stargazing, but...
unless you've read the book,
and unless you're a child (or at least not a grownup),
and unless you are willing to take a chance on being consoled,

you will want to find out why...

frosting

when I walked out the front door to put bubby on the bus
there was a wee toadstool on the lawn
so I grabbed the camera for pic

it is unusual how the dew appears white
looks like frosting :) spread ever so thinly

critical activity

tell them you love them
nothing any more important
sounds simple yet

a friend of mine said
"my wife wants her mom to say "I love you" to her"
she doesn't want to prompt it
it needs to come from her mom's own intuitive heart
maybe if i post this - then it will start a chain reaction and
get back to my friend...

please please please
"tell them you love them"
and furthermore "tell your friends to tell them too"

River Bed

a river bed though once a rivulet

or perhaps the largest glacial gape

gawks in awe of thaw

water scrambles over gravel, mud, sand

scratching it’s itchy places

a river bed though once a ditch

or perhaps a meteoric skidmark

receives due reward

slow widenings, gently to receive

the infusion release of mountain, plain, hill and dale

a river bed though once a single drop

or perhaps shiftless mantle shuffled ‘neath

hidden shimmer below grassy earth

flows winding oxbows till swinging

touching bank to bank the bed straightens

a river bed surrounds, shapes, sings

or perhaps reflects inspires life changes

dynamic, instantaneous, subtle, life long

stretches body, mind, soul

rising each day the river flows

tight sounds

water running in the tub
pet footsteps, especially the cat (Twilight)
Mr Coffee
hydro-floss in use
the AC (or Heat) just kicked on
truck's door hinge
click of magnet lock release
keyboard in the next cube
fan on power supply
hum of the phone set on vibrate
keys in pocket while walking
the dryer
a zipper
head smushes a pillow

~ how's your hearing? name a few of the sounds of your day...

the reality of being a survivor

1. When did you realize you were wounded?

I woke up; there was a sense of loss. The wound was intuitive and cognitive, suspected and known, esoteric and tangible, burning and numb.

2. Did you feel alone due to this wound?

No, the wound was there. Being alone was just part of the landscape.
A solitude of weariness hovered like smoke above a campfire on a muggy evening.

3. Is it important to explain this wound to someone?

Yes it is important to share wounds, difficulties, struggles with someone.
And also highly important is being aware that it can and does happen to each of us.
Unique and discreet moments when our humanity displays its vulnerable side are common to all persons.

week number 116

http://curiousasacat.blogspot.com/

1) what are the three most important family values in your family? for the world? are they the same?
family: love, respect, cleanup after yourself :)
world: respect, cleanup after yourself, be suspicious of politicians
Same: if we can get to respect we can work on love, politicians earn any suspicions they awaken

2) name your least favorite candy. why do you dislike it so much?

any kind the kids like, they wind up taking it away from me unless they don't like it :)

3) among your friends, which would you choose as the next pope?
bob, he has opinions - has reasons and doesn't mind sharing them (with authority) and he is down to earth with a deep sense of personal fairness. oh yeah, and i think he may be a reformed baptist

4) what is the slowest realization you've ever come to?
all my realizations are slow, should i pick one? it's quite a journey this wonderful life, just to be thankful and grateful in all circumstances

5) show and tell. what comes to mind first when you see this picture? or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
gentle reminder SLOW - the clouds, the distant mountains, the green esplanade tree lined to the right, the rock fence
SLOW - a response to "high" priced gasoline ($3.50 a gallon - today)
SLOW - the pace of my life
SLOW - look back and evaluate
SLOW - just before you stop

bright mountain behind the mountain

See more at Kathleen Raine poems

The Wilderness

I came too late to the hills: they were swept bare
Winters before I was born of song and story,
Of spell or speech with power of oracle or invocation,

The great ash long dead by a roofless house, its branches rotten,
The voice of the crows an inarticulate cry,
And from the wells and springs the holy water ebbed away.

A child I ran in the wind on a withered moor
Crying out after those great presences who were not there,
Long lost in the forgetfulness of the forgotten.

Only the archaic forms themselves could tell!
In sacred speech of hoodie on gray stone, or hawk in air,
Of Eden where the lonely rowan bends over the dark pool.

Yet I have glimpsed the bright mountain behind the mountain,
Knowledge under the leaves, tasted the bitter berries red,
Drunk water cold and clear from an inexhaustible hidden fountain.
