to bless friendship

For sage spoke, "a friend in need
is a friend indeed", may treasure be
found through friendship as connection
lifts the dark veil of need.

May smile shared anticipate smile
returned by friendship's warm glow.

May lightness and freedom bring strong
bonds to friendship's climate, be it storm or calm.

May the songs of friendship bring
resonant unison, bright harmony,
and playful counterpoint.

May "puppy-like" adoration keep
friendship fresh and clean.

May friendship establish precedent
as time becomes the subsequent.

May friendship arrive with energy,
reveal opportunity, and initiate activity.

And as days emerge one by one from
each other, may the inner peace
of self-friendship inform the world
of friendship's just rewards.

Love Letter No 75 - Hungry Love

Dear Z,
I remember the sights, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells. How delicious we are! How yummy! What a robust flavor this love. Sweet bubbly wine that tickles the nose and entices taste buds.

I'll lay it out completely -
This love is a delectable dinner...

The apertif is a White Sangria followed up with anitpasta platter, for our love starts with warming tides of winter.

The salad foretells summer with a Pinto Grigo,
for our love has summer's warmth.

The Chardonnay bodes the swordfish with salsa,
for our love is swimming the oecans.

The wild rice has the spice of the orient,
for our love is full of ancient mysteries.

The fruit and dipping chocolate for dessert,
for our love is sweet and to be savored.

The strawberry champagne toasts the night,
for our love sweeps into the beckoning new year.

I am hungry love! Oh how yummy this year will be.

With deep and tender affection,
LarryG

Love Letter No 74 - Sneaky Love

Dear X,
If you suspected what I am up to "sneaky love" would be out of the question. But there is going to be a surprise, and even though I am mentioning it here, it isn't spilling the beans. Sneaky love will find a way!

The gift inside the ornament on the tree, pampering found on your pillow at the close of the day, the note left in the console of your car, the words written with your lipstick on the mirror in the hall bathroom, sneaky love gives reminders that love is all around. Asking for the ice cream out of the freezer seemed benign enough, surprise! sneaky love was there too!

Love is gonna sneak up this Christmas! Relax, let your guard down, it is okay, Santa said so!

With deep and tender affection,

LarryG

Tearful Christmas memory - in 2004 my family was adopted by the Cancer Radiology clinic near where we lived. The kids were 15, 12, and 8 that year. At the time it didn't seem like such a big deal, and then it soaked in, these people treat lots of cancer patients and they are adopting my family! What do they think of our situation! But we did manage to make Christmas 2005 too!
And I am most thankful for the year 2005.

Maybe this Christmas we should pray for those who have been "adopted" during the holidays.

to bless receiving

May receiving put a twinkle in your eye,
a flush in your cheeks, and a smile on your lips.

May receiving subvert wants, for every gift comes "as is".
May receiving be your free-est moment bearing complete
irresponsibility, requiring no more than presence and
willing acceptance.
May receiving bring surprise,
catching the unguarded heart in the moment.

May receiving bring instant delight to the heart as
the playful spirit of childhood is kindled beneath
the glowing embers of maturity's judgmental ashes.

May receiving perpetuate relationship
through genuine approbation.

May receiving convince the doubting heart that
love prevails in a world gone mad with
greedy taking.
May receiving's pause reflect
on what has been given and how that
demonstrates love's proof.

So may an irrepressible giggle bubble from within,
toes tapping, and hands clapping as a song of
thanks and praise is sung to the giver of life.

Love Letter No 73 - Happy Love

Dear L,
Happy love lifts me up each day.
Happy love is with me as the
day begins and through twilight’s
last gasp. Oh! how happy is the lover
finding the evening occupied as
we are!

Happy is a wonderful way to
fall asleep. Should the wee
hours of darkness find a wakeful
eye cast upon the moonbeams that
light your visage what happiness
that is to absorb.

The depth of happy love began
small, but over time the progress
has been monumental.
Not because we “make” each other
happy, no, no, just because we are happy!

And the boost is that being happy
draws us too each other’s
arms!

With deep and tender affection,

LarryG

A Love Story

Pre-History

She
Discovering her way as a young person of faith,
Messenger of Satan encountered,
Years of rediscovery requiring searching of the soul
Then ultimately coming into the care of the Shepherd,
Realizing this is where she was all along
God does not forsake his beloved.

He
Similar yet longer journey, many life experiences
Family experience, growing children
And then a messenger of Satan claims a partner
Seeking Him becomes the greatest pursuit in life
Finding and sharing with spiritual friends
Chosen of common faith

Inklings
Common friends flow into lives
A graceful curve has begun to flow within

Spring Party
The powerful events of the Spirit and fellowship
Dying of self and shame and sickness
Walking in light of God’s love and faith
Moving into the candlelight
Letters of Christ’s love
this common weekend of life in community
it cuts to the core of who they are
and the obstacles of the Christian life
Seeing Him in each other’s faces

A Death in the Community
There are words in the “hymn of promise”

The Hymn of Promise

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;
In cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody;
There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
In our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity,
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
----
A death came to our community,
A mother and father bereaved
Children suddenly fatherless
A young woman heartbroken
A young man receives the reward
And perhaps there is rejoicing for the wanderer come home
And somehow through this death
There is a resurrection, a new life of possibility begins
Communication springs forth
Exchanges of faith, fellowship
Longings are stirred

A prayer offered
Communication continues, friends touch the spirit of each other lives
Then out comes a prayer, thankfulness for the closeness
Thankfulness for the work of God
Beginnings significantly marked with gratitude

Then came Thursday
The talk was long and into wee hours
But ultimately there came a moment
Feelings no longer be held back
A word almost a whisper
It hung there in the moment
Suspended against he backdrop of grace
“I’m kind of smitten”
A heart pondering response

And as the heart ponders
Words come in
“there is work for two together”
More pondering in depth intense
Searching of the soul the heart the mind of God
“if I you know I am a believer
Come live with me”
And the Spirit smacks him into the floor
Writhing in joy, hope and belonging fully to Him
The fleece is wet, the ground is dry
The fleece is dry, the ground is wet
Who is like God?
It pleases Him,
let it be according to the desire of the Spirit
Confidence acquired, Moving ahead

Seeing Someone
She told those guys
He told those girls
How appealing is the one who
Has cast all to the Lord
The look of God-love upon their face
Who will come forth
Attracted to the light of this life or that one
Confidence in the king
Doing something right

Radical Question
The perfect dog, whiffer
The perfect card, falling more
The perfect ring, an heirloom
Yet, a moment too soon
And a question hangs
Above them as a rainbow over
Wet glade and garden
Much to consider, people to talk with
Details remain to work out

And then a kiss – oh glorious
How wonderful to discover
This kiss and not too late
And just soon enough
Everything shifting
Perspective remaining
A Kiss can do that and more
And …
It did – this kiss shared

Got Your Back
Got your back
Got your back
In prayer – the word
Two are better than one
A friend loves at all times
Calling in for a hug
Go 2 Girl and Go 2 Guy
Pouring out the cup
Of their lives for the
Precious ones God puts in their lives

Pulling Together
Come my love and share this burden
The yoke He said is easy
The burden it is light
And gently gracefully they took the handle
As two children of one spirit
A wagon for to pull
At times one rides one pushes
then the other rides and is pulled
and then they pull together
or get in this wagon side by side
riding with one leg out and pushing together
and then at hill’s top they join
for the coast to the foot of the hill
and begin to pull together

Life in the wake
A vision emerging,
Something called ‘Way’
Through those many
Dangers – toils – snares
And more to come
Relationships – talks with family
Talks with friends
Knowing certainty
A peace that comes from living
Life in the wake of the Spirit’s tide
Not knowing the next chapter
Assured only by the author
Continuing revelation
Joy for the journey

Love Letter No 72 - Effortless Love

Dear B,
You inspire wonderful feats,
Let's dance to the pipe
and the fiddle till dawn.
And then let go, adrift, floating.
Effortless.
You have taught me very well.

Effortless love, so very
light, lithe, flexible.
No struggle to hang on,
no chance of a strained muscle,
and no nose out of joint.

It is zero gravity, no pressure,
specific gravity that floats,
buoyant love. All day long
I think of nothing else, and
this smile left behind, ahhh,

divine, winsome,
effortless.

With deep and tender affection,

to bless listening

May your reputation be of one who is willing to listen.
May the patience for hearing be long and up to the task.
May those who come with a story to you anticipate a willingness that enhances their ability to get to the point.

May those who matter most know in their heart of hearts they have been heard upon gazing into your eyes.

May your listening enrich your life. May you find that contrary to the maxim "less is more" in listening "more becomes great gain."

May the depth of silence offered in listening bring honor to that which is being heard.

May listening return its most loving gift as ear rests upon chest of the beloved in gracious repose.

Love Letter No 71 - Incompetent Love

Dear J,
When you are on my mind nothing else matters, nothing. Please don't hold me accountable, but I forgot the bread, forgot to stop by the cleaners, or wound up a half hour late because I waited for the bouquet while the florist arranged it on the spot.

I plead incompetent love.
When I do
the foolish instead of the logical, it's
because I was thinking of you instead
of thinking at all. It must seem silly for
a grown up to act like this, yet I am
smitten. I am in a perpetual "Walter Mitty"
haze.

No, I don't want to shake it. I don't need to
be rescued.
It is profoundly incompetent
love, and to the unaware I appear vacant,
gazing into neverland, transfixed with
a sudden smile.

With deep and tender affection,

---------------------------------------------------------
a dab of background, I was at an event last night and a child of similar age to the one in the picture (judging by the dental work), well, she got to smiling when I would give her a wink or a nod and it was a "sudden smile" that we shared - you know those times when impish joy takes over the moment and you have a child grinning, well it was one... so I made a note of the term "sudden smile" and vowed to elaborate... wah-lah! today's haiku availed itself as the "poifect" opportunity...
Have a wonderfully childish day!

to bless self surrounding

May self-surrounding become a means
of sharing the best of life with those
near and dear to heart. May you place
in the "rooms of your life" appropriate graces
for arrivals and departures.

May your "kitchen of strength" be filled
with tools for healthy eating, fellowship
around table, and comforts of friendly talk.

May your "office of mind" meld
bustle and peace. May you be drawn
deeper into the expression of life’s
work. May this satisfy the heart and
echo the words "well done devoted one".

May the "den of your heart" afford
joy of solitude and love of sharing.

May the "altar room of spirit" express
the truth that inner sacrifice has an open reward.

May each room of your life add
comforting space that can challenge and nurture,
heal and mold, mystify and enlighten.
May this ingathering of people,
things, ideas become a "self-surrounding"
that overshadows mere personal growth,
yielding a homecoming of unity within.

Have you? Did you?

Have you had a rug burn?
Did you get itchy from a grassy hillside?
Did you wake up with roses on your porch?
Have you gotten butterflies in a bouquet?

Did you get a song to sleep by?
Have you been tucked in?
Have you met at the visitor's center?
Did you take a three county loop ride?

Have you been to the land of the green?
Did you spin yourself dizzy together?
Did you throw away a box of memories?
Have you laughed till you hurt?

Did you share a bottle of DeLoach?
Have you been on a hot date?
Have you felt a hundred godwinks a day?
Did coincidence confirm connection?

Have you sat with guitar and song sheets?
Did you inspire a praise song, written and sung?
Did you stumble to the stairs?
Have you danced to the whistle and fiddle?

Did you share dark fear in a sacred space?
Have you had a heart placed in your hands?
Have your tears fell again in brokenhearted pain?
Did you stub every toe on both feet?

Have you? Did you?
Did you? Have you?

Love Letter No 70 - Success Love

Dear J,

To say I think of you constantly is such an understatement. I would say there are times when I may happen not to be thinking of you, the distraction at that point is not worth a mention. With us "success" happened, over and over, and that reduced everything else to background noise. The rest of the world may have been spinning along, but our world was in slow motion. We embraced, the world turned around us.

So if you want the definition of "success"; our picture is next to the word in the dictionary. The sacrifices were there, yet hardly worth mentioning. And once "success" happens, there's no desire for anything else. Yes, I know that you know, I love you, and to hear that over and over is "success", to live in "success", to swim in that ocean and shout from that mountain, to ride that rocket beyond the atmosphere, "SUCCESS".

With deep and tender affection,

LarryG

Love Letter No 69 - Retro Love

Dear P,
Tee shirts, torn jeans, sandals, beads, bracelets, earrings, all the trappings of days gone by are unnoticed as wide-eyed affection dominates. The intensity of tie dyed rainbows bursting open on display represents all the colors of life we share. Bangles were enough, matching toe rings too, kept rapt attention focused on what will never be forgotten.

Rubik's cubes, hula hoops, art deco, fads drop in and fashions change, this little boat floats on through every storm. And then that next kiss takes us back to the first one, retro love, alive and kicking.

to bless embarrassment

"I wish I'd have sunk through the floor on the spot",
often heard afterward, yet may the
moment of embarrassment bring blessing
other emotion cannot provide. May the common
bond of humanity prompt recognition that
brings comic relief. Feelings transfigured through
the hot flushing skin bring assurance of
basic humanity. If ever experience bonds
humanity as one let the glue be embarrassment,
and in that bonding a great blessing.

May the fundamental notion that "every thought
is physiological" be affirmed during
embarrassment. May acceptance reign
over avoidance, and admission over denial,
when gracefully the acknowledgment is made.

May we handle tenderly any event shaming
or embarrassing another, and if a "better
them than me" attitude comes to mind,
the knowing is this,
"The treatment received by those
in direst circumstance
is the measure of civility of the whole."

May embarrassment be rare,
may such events yield remarkable stories,
and may the telling and retelling of stories bind
those who love best closer still.

Love Letter No 67 - Climate Love

Dear A,

Pervasive, all around us, so influential and undeniable it becomes hard to put your finger on, and oh so difficult to describe, "Climate love" is, the just right water in the gold fish globe, the island getaway warmth to bask in while relaxing, the unified cheer of the crowd when the star emerges for an encore at the close of a brilliant performance.

And the climate I celebrate now is powerful, motivating, soul stretching, heart winning, thrill inducing, body entwining, deep soulful gazing, hand holding, lip touching, way down in the innards, total passionate love.

There is no better place than this climate, climate love.

to bless "the credit"

A moment of clarity, something to be hoped for,
and perhaps to be attained, for a
moment, may it
bring with it "the credit"
needed for the days journey.

May the affirmation of life bestow
"the credit" to
enliven the step, invigorate
action, and renew purpose.
May there be no
time wasted in the pursuit
of "the
credit" as an end in itself.

May "the credit" and those
with concerns
for it be held in its most fleeting condition.
May those
tempted with lesser
affairs grab "the credit", while life allows
freedom
of the heart for pursuits
that engorge the
entire being
to its intended stature for those
unworried by "the credit".

May "the credit"
be recognized as a natural by
product of the truly
valuable process of
a life's tasks.
Yet, while it is nature's release to
be unencumbered by
the gaining of "the credit"
may the joy of giving be always
flowing
as that perpetual fountain in the giving of "the credit".

May the eye never tire of seeing those
nearby whose active
presence deems
"the credit" be given. May the arms never tire

of thankful hugs that pass "the credit" to
those responsible
for acts of mercy. And may feet
never fail for taking the steps
to bring
"the credit" to those who labor
tirelessly behind the
limelight to ennoble
so many great gifts.

May "the credit" be remembered for its
roll and blessed with
a thousand
blessings as triumphs are passed around with delight.

Share “10 Honest Things”

A fabulous teacher & really "bad"mom Stephanie of bad mom bestowed upon me recently a gracious "Honest Scrap" award ~

I do enjoy reading the "bad mom"files, and can hardly ever resist: making my own personal comments, providing unsolicited "guy" remarks, and the playful spirit that Badmom brings to her blogging. For some reason she has pondered the above and deems it "honest scrap"!

Who am I to argue with that!

Furthermore, and pursuant to the terms of this award and with the encouragement of those who have shared this before I proclaim the following:

No. 1 -- I am exceedingly tickled, honored & thankful.

No.2 -- I share the glow by telling 10 honest things about myself.

No. 3 -- I name below other bloggers who constantly overwhelm me with brilliance and baffle me with, well you know that "baffling stuff (bs)" and that I sincerely love.

My ten things you probably didn't know about me:

1. When I was in elementary school I was smitten by "the little red haired girl", (a'la Charlie Brown)

2. I play or have played a few musical instruments: trombone and tuba (hs band and US Army 14th Army Band), Flute (Marshall Tucker style for rock roll band in HS, and one concert with the community orchestra), bass guitar (rock and roll band), flat top guitar (personal enjoyment, praise and hymn leading in church), mandolin - octave mandolin - mandocello (performed Irish music with my own band, Local Mandolin Orchestra, and countless "kitchen music" sessions of old time, bluegrass, fiddle tunes, irish tunes)

3. Have participated in the "4th day movement". (This is one of thousands of these type groups.)

4. Enjoy 3 wonderful children.

5. Ran a half marathon in Nashville, TN last April.

6. My mom's dad (born in 1903) was a casual acquaintance of Charles Lindbergh.

7. My dad's dad (born in 1900) played clarinet in the "Lincoln Mill Band" in Huntsville, Alabama (in the 20s)

8. My dad was a band director, choir director, and performed one season with New Orleans Opera one year in the 1950s. Dad had a lovely "irish" tenor.

9. My mom was a piano teacher, taught kindergarten in our home (before it was part of the public schools), and was a librarian.
